Behind the brand with SoSo Swim

This Secondhand September, we’re delighted to be growing our community of brand partners and welcoming SoSo Swim. SoSo Swim is a sustainable swimwear brand creating flattering designs for planet conscious women. If you’re a SoSo Swim customer, your past purchases are waiting in your digital wardrobe to be reworn or resold. Soon-to-be customers can shop pre-loved swimwear - the first batch sold out super quickly so keep checking back for new uploads!

We caught up with founder Romy to go behind the brand…

Meet Romy, the founder of SoSo Swim

When did you found SoSo Swim?

I launched SoSo Swim last April 2021, although I had the idea for a year before that. With any fashion brand it takes a long time to make sure the piece you are making fits perfectly and the right fabric is found, which is why it took almost a year to launch. I had the idea after not being able to find sustainable swimwear that was good for the planet but also looked good on. I wanted to find a fit that shaped my body and had this 70s high cut shape. Eventually after not finding what I wanted I decided to create it myself. I researched and found a pattern designer and then a factory and then started making the swimsuits.

What makes SoSo Swim different to other swimwear brands?

At SoSo Swim we believe the best way forward is to encourage slow fashion practices. We want to give our customers a swimsuit that makes them feel amazing, and one that is of a higher quality so it lasts for years to come. We’ve created timeless pieces that don’t conform with trends so that our customers can enjoy them for a lifetime.

We also of course wanted to make something out of a kinder material so use ECONYL, made from regenerated fishing nets and other waste. Every part of our packaging is plastic free, our swing tags are plantable, hygiene labels compostable, and we use paper bags so they can be recycled. And lastly with every order we give to different organisations to make us climate positive, with the impact of this listed on our website .

What does circularity mean to you?

Circularity means pieces can continuously be loved and worn. Remembering that pieces made from high quality fabrics can last a lifetime if they’re cared for and therefore if you no longer love a piece as much as you used to, with circular resale platforms you can easily sell it to someone that will love it just as much. This helps pieces have a new life and not go to landfill which in turn helps the planet.

Why is SoSo Swim joining OWNI?

We are joining OWNI as we want our customers to have the opportunity to give their pieces that may not fit or be used as much to have another home that will love them equally as much. We loved the OWNI concept where we can have this second hand marketplace linked to our website too as it means anytime a customer or customer-to-be visits our website they can have the opportunity to find a pre-loved piece which is good for the planet, and save some money too.

What are you selling on OWNI?

To start with, we’ve got some older pieces from photoshoots which we’ve added online. We also have a couple of pieces that have been discontinued and a couple of my pieces that I used for photos but personally don’t wear.
